Nursing In Public
OH! THE PLACES I HAVE NURSED!
When I was a new mom for the first time (18 years ago!), the nursing cover didn’t exist. When nursing in public I would sit with my back to the room, I left the room altogether, or I retreated to the car to breastfeed my newborn in privacy.
Nursing is NOT easy. Especially with the first baby. Let’s be honest, no matter how many things you read or how many people give you advice, you are just not prepared for the demands of nursing, both physically and emotionally. It’s draining – quite literally. Then once I had my second baby and had gone on to found Bebe au Lait (read our About Us here), I had beautiful covers to wear and I could stay in the room, wander around Nordstrom and even sit between a bunch of teenage boys in the apple store and nurse away!

We took a break from having babies to give our new company all the attention it demanded, waiting 8 years before having our third (and final!) little girl. I was so happy to be using our products again and I was so proud that all of them were truly useful, well-made as well as beautiful.
Sometimes I felt comfortable enough to nurse in public and for the other times, I knew I had my Bebe au Lait nursing cover.
Some of the other benefits of a cover: my baby stayed focused on me and on nursing, not distracted by the outside world. I didn’t have to worry about my newly deflated belly being exposed. It works great as a sunshade over a front carrier and one the best reasons? There’s no need to buy nursing tops!
