Forget the Mom Guilt - Fed is Best!
Let's face it - not everyone can breastfeed their baby. You'd think it's as easy as popping your nipple in the baby's mouth and you're done - right? I mean, that's exactly what our bodies were designed to do - grow and feed babies.
Unfortunately, sometimes things don't go as planned.
There are a variety of reasons why breastfeeding can be difficult or impossible for moms.
Sometimes, there are physical complications. If the mother has inverted nipples or other physical conditions that prevent breastfeeding, there is little that can be done. Babies can also have physical differences that make suckling difficult or impossible, such as a tongue-tie or cleft palate.
Physical differences aren't the only barriers to successful breastfeeding - sometimes babies just don't seem to want to breastfeed. There are dozens of factors that could be the culprit - from low breast milk flow that makes sucking difficult for baby, to hormones that make breast milk taste salty.
Breastfeeding experiences vary from pregnancy to pregnancy too. I was able to breastfeed my first son exclusively - however, with my second son, I only got a few months in before my milk supply dried up. I switched to bottles and he didn't seem to mind at all!
Sometimes the choice is economical - many mothers don't have the option of pumping at work. Some have long commutes or travel frequently, which cuts down on being able to successfully establish a strong breastfeeding routine.
No matter what the reason is, some mothers just find it less frustrating for themselves and babies to switch from breastfeeding to bottle-feeding.
There's a lot of mom guilt that comes along with deciding to stop breastfeeding - after all, we are told by Pinterest, friends, and our healthcare providers about how important breastfeeding is!
However, the most important thing to keep in mind is that fed is best!
Bebe au Lait is a huge supporter of breastfeeding - after all, our flagship product was invented by our founder to support her own breastfeeding in public. But more importantly, we are huge supporters of moms and babies!
Millions of happy, healthy babies grow up with a mix of breast and bottle feeding, or bottle-feeding only. As long as you are bonding with your little one and they are fed, happy, and healthy - it's no one's business but your own.
So ditch the mom guilt and focus on all the things you do each day for your baby - and trust us, they will grow up just as smart, strong, creative and compassionate, whether you breast or bottle-feed!
